Nana and the rich lady

December 28, 2015

My grandmother, my Nana, was a perfectly decent person who could be a real pain in the ass. DUring the Depression, she and my Pop Pop owned a bakery. She told me this story:

“The rich lady in town came into my bakery. I was cleaning the floor. And she looked down at me and said, ‘Stella aren’t you ashamed of being on your knees cleaning a floor?’ ‘No I’d be ashamed if I was on my knees cleaning your floor.'”
