Talking to Old Men

April 21, 2015

I got out of the surf and wound up talking to a local, a guy in his seventies who was talking about the loss of a friend, his fathert, levels of reality and spirituality and the people around him, That lasted 46 minutes. Then at a bookstore, an 81-year old man and I quoted TS Eliot. He was an English teacher and he was stunned I was reading Jame T Farrell. SO he talked about literature, his relatives, his work with Mexican children, Charles Dickens and more. Then we talked about Russian literature and so on. This went on for fifty minutes.

And what did I learn from talking to an accumulated wisdom of 156 years?

Try to avoid getting into conversations with old men.
