An Ode To Classic NHL Hockey Names

March 8, 2014

When I was  in high school there were only twelve teams. And I followed the game and read about its history. And the names of some of the players have always stuck with me. They’re more memorable than the names of various warriors in the Illiad:

When I say these names out loud, they always take my somewhere and make me smile…

Yvan Cornoyer

Gilles Meloche

Jean Beliveau

Caesar Maniago

Maurice Richard

Chico Resch

Ron Tugnutt

Turk Broda

Gump Worsley

Toe Blake

JC Trembley

Serge Sevard

Gilles Meloche

Ted Lindsay was a wonderful color guy on NHL on NBC. Love to hear him howl Cournoyer’s name as he flashed down the ice. Great little pocket rocket.

Maurice Richard The Pocket Rocker. Courn was a great right winger shooter. The skaters go better over time. And the trap defense is dull.
