August humid garage band dad

June 27, 2013

The August shower came down in a hiss.

It sizzled on the driveway.

The air was filled with the stale cleansing of dirty hot asphalt and water.

Dad was sitting in a lawn chair in the garage

He was sipping a beer.

Watching the rain splatter on the driveway

He was somewhere else.

I was behind him, standing on the steps, watching but deciding not to interfere.

There was heat lightning.

Bolts,

Later the humidity in the air was gone

The refreshed green lawn and plants and shrubs and weeds angrily thrived

Everything felt clean

Probably because I never bothered him

And he sipped his cold beer and never saw me.

I see him now

And enjoy the rain.
