Martin Luther King Holiday doesn’t mean death takes a holiday

January 16, 2012

Ok. I call the Stanford Cancer Center today because I’m going through Chemo this week and need additional tests. And what do I find? An operator tells me they’re closed. I said, “Well, the doctors made you work. I guess I’ll tell the tumor growing inside me to take the day off too.”

Astonished. The oncologist and doctors might need a day off from their burdens, But do it on your own time. I’m sorry people are suffering 24-hours a day. I’m sorry there’s a tumor in me that is growing and crowding out my organs. But I didn’t choose to haver cancer. They chose to be a doctor.

I sincerely doubt they would take the day off if someone in their family had cancer.

So on with the day. Tomorrow put on my imaginary boxing gloves and fight for my life.
