Freedom: how can you read a guy who knows less about life than you?

November 9, 2010

‘Freedom’ by the dwellingly earnest Jonathan Franzen, who took well-intentioned and boring where John Updike left off. Over 500 pages of suburbanites. 500! I closed the book after the first three pages, two attempted skims, and looking at the last page. 500! Let my pupils go!

I really tried and I was in pain. And the topics he launched on and themes, couldn’t feel the juice, but for some reason it made me want to become a realtor with a drinking problem who worries about his children getting into a charter school.

Now Sebastian Junger–I can read him, he’s been tromping about,

But a bird watcher who reads and hangs out with writers on the East Coast, see ya!
